1st European U8 Championship

23 girls and 38 boys under eight years from Azerbaijan, Belgium, Estonia, Georgia, Romania, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine are participating in the first European U8 championship in Batumi (October 12-23). This event is organized by the Government of Georgia, Georgian Chess club "Kazus", Georgian chess federation and Adjarian chess federation with support of the Turkish chess federation.

Chess and Music Festival in the Château de Villandry

Philidor The Château de Villandry is one of the most visited castles in France and famous for its gardens. On  October 20th & 21st a festival "Chess and Music" will be held here. The organizers are the French chess federation, the City of Loches and Henri Carvallo, the current owner of the castle and a good chess player.

The festival celebrates the memory of André-François Danican Philidor (1726 - 1795). Nicolas Dupont Danican Philidor, a descendant of the famous chess player and composer, will open a conference on "Philidor Le Grand" on October 20.

The European Club Cup 2007 (23rd European Club Cup for Men, 12th European Club Cup for Women) will be held in Antalya - Kemer (Turkey) from Tuesday 2 until Wednesday 10 October.

The European Team Chess Championships (ETCC) will take place 27 October - 7 November 2007 in the luxurious Creta Maris Conference Hotel in Crete, Greece. The Organizing Committee is ready to offer another 5-star quality event, in line with the high standards established since the World Youth Championships of 2002 and 2004 which were also held in Crete!

The deadline for submission of abstracts for the first Aberdeen Chess in the Schools and Communities International Conference (CISCCON; August 30 to September 1, 2007) has been extended from 22nd December 2006 to 31st March 2007. The abstracts should be no longer than 300 words.

GM Yuri Drozdovskij from Odessa (Ukraine) won the European Rapid Chess Championship (6th AMPLICO AIG LIFE Rapid Tournament) which took place 16-17 December 2006 in the Torwar Hall in Warsaw (Poland) during the 25th Memorial of Stanislaw Gawlikowski.
