9th European Individual Chess Championship

The 9th European Individual Chess Championship and the 9th European Individual Women´s Chess Championship will start on Sunday (April 20) with the opening ceremony. The championships will be held in the Novotel Plovdiv (Bulgaria). The first round begins on Monday (April 21) at 14.30.

On 17 March 2008 in Brdo, Slovenia, the Sports Ministers and Presidents of the National Olympic Committees of the EU Member States adopted a Joint Declaration on "Social Significance and Dialogue in Sport". On the occasion of the Slovenian EU Presidency Dr Milan Zver, the Slovenian Minister for Sport and Education had invited to this meeting.

On Thursday, 13 March 2008, a special stamp was issued in Dresden (Germany). The promotion day was organized by the company Deutsche Post AG, the Association of Saxon Philatelists and the Association for Saxon Postal History and Philatelie in cooperation with the City of Dresden.

Chess Tournament for Diplomats

ECU sponsored a chess tournament for diplomats which was organized in the German embassy in Yerevan/Armenia and which was supported by the Chess Federation of Armenia. This idea was gratefully accepted by the diplomats and should be continued once a year.
