80 teams (60 men & 20 women) have registered till now for ECC 2008! If this number of teams starts the tournament on October 17th it will be a new big participation record for both events. Moreover few European federations asked for a time extension for their registrations due to National Club Championships held this season. We will update you with all the news.

The City of Dresden, the Schacholympiade 2008 Chess Foundation GmbH and the EnBW Energie Baden- Wuerttemberg AG as new main and presenting sponsor introduced the new signet of the event. The new logo graphically combines the tournament logo with this of the new sponsor.

The Italian Chess Federation has invited teams from Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland to the
Mitropa Cup 2008 in Olbia, Archaeologic Museum (25 May - 4 June 2008). The event is organized with two separate sections - a men's section and a women's section.

The 4th Pivdenny Bank Chess Cup will take place in Odessa, Ukraine from 30 May - 2 June 2008. Eight grandmasters will play two rapid games each against other. The games between the veterans Karpov and Korchnoi will be of special interest. In 1978 they played the first of their world championship matches in Baguio, Philippines.

Online Registration was started on 20 May 2008. Registration will close on 12 July 2008.
Even before the official opening of the online registration as many as 82 nations had pre-registered for the world's largest chess event.
EICC 2009 men in Budva

During the European Individual Chess Championships 2008 in Plovdiv, ECU Board Member Vladimir Sakotic had a meeting with representatives of ACP on behalf of the organizers of the
EICC 2009 for men which will be held in Budva (Montenegro).
After review of already confirmed dates for some events it was agreed that exact dates of EICC 2009 men definitely will be March 5 (arrival day) to March 19, (departure day). According to Vladimir Sakotic, these dates are final.
Company Chess Championship in Hockenheim

It's the eighth time in Germany that National Company Chess Championships will be held, this time in October in Hockenheim, well-known because of its Formula 1 circuit. But also well-known for its Karpov Chess Academy, which in 2007 has organised the European Individual Senior Chess Championship.

Association of Chess Professionals (ACP) reports, that an ECU - ACP meeting took place during the European Individual Chess Championship in Plovdiv, on April 27th 2008. Both the ECU and the ACP were represented by 4 members of their boards:
ECU: Boris Kutin (President), Vladimir Sakotic, Werner Stubenvoll; Gerry Walsh.
ACP: Sergei Movsesian, Yannick Pelletier, Emil Sutovsky, Pavel Tregubov.
