110 players - among them 8 (W)GM, 9 (W)IM and 19 (W)FM - from 24 nations started on 9th August in the first round of the European Senior Chess Championship 2008 in Davos (Switzerland).

EUYCC 2008 in Mureck (Austria)

Kurt Jungwirth, President of Austrian Chess Federation, opened on 6th August in Mureck traditional youth chess event with European Union Youth Chess Championship and Styrian Youth Open. Josef Galler, governor of Mureck, welcomed more than 200 participants from 25 federations. Many thanks have to be given to Styrian Youth Government for great support in financial and organizing matters.

U18 European Youth Team Championships

The Hungarian Chess Federation invited all European Chess Federations affiliated to FIDE and ECU to participate in the European Youth Team Chess Championships in the youth holiday resort in Szeged (Novotel Hotel Szeged), situated on the south side of river Tisza. Rounds 1-6: 14-20 June, 3 pm; round 7: 21 June, 1.30 pm. Free day 18 June.
Teams are registrated from a) boys: HUN (2), ESP, POL, ROU, CRO, SVK, GER (2), SLO, SCO and TUR; b) girls: GER, CRO, MNE, POL, ROU, SLO and HUN (2).
