European Club Cup 2006

The European Club Cup 2006 (22nd European Club Cup for men, 11th European Club Cup for women) will start on Sunday (October 8, 2006) in Fuegen, Zillertal, Austria. The number of participating teams is 60 in the men's competition and 14 in the women's competition. Totally there will be 74 teams with approximate 500 to 600 team members. The organisers will broadcast in co-operation with the Austrian chess federation 36 games from the men's competition. Further games will be broadcasted by MonRoi. The "International Chess University" has recently published exclusive video interviews with the top 5 finishers in the 1st FIDE World Blitz Championship which took place in Rishon Lezion, Israel (Sep 5-8, 2006): Alexander Grischuk (Russia), the new champion; Peter Svidler (Russia), the runner-up; Vishy Anand (India), the pre-tournament favourite; Judit Polgar (Hungary), who was leading at early stages and Teimour Radjabov (Azerbaijan).
