To all

European Chess

Federations

Berlin, January 17, 2000

Dear friends,

At the beginning of the year 2000, I would like to inform you about some important

decisions made by our Board in the meeting of January 8, in Budapest.

For the organization of the 1st European Individual Championship we have received three very good bids from Biel/Switzerland, Budva/Montenegro and Saint-Vincent/Italy. Taking into consideration all circumstances of the bids, the Board finally decided to hold this essential Championship in Saint-Vincent in the valley of Aosta from July 3 until 14, 2000. It will be an Open Tournament with 11 rounds. Further details will be fixed later together with the Organizing Committee.

We would like to ask all federations to support this European Individual Championship by sending as many players as possible to Saint-Vincent. A big European event would strengthen our organization.

The European Junior Championship will be held in Aviles/Spain from August 15 until 28, 2000. For this traditional Championship, we had received bids from Pardubice/Czech Republic, Patras/Greece and Aviles/Spain.

The Chess Academy of Norther Greece has informed us, that the European Youth Championships 2000 will take place in Litohoro City from September 22 until 30, 2000.

There is an idea to create European Internet Championships. Negotiations will be

taken up with KasparovChess Online.

We would like to remind you that the deadline for the European Individual Women’s Championship, European Club Cup, European Club Cup for Women and European

Senior Championship will be the end of February 2000.

If you need some more information about the events mentioned above, do not hesitate to contact our secretariat in Berlin.

Best regards,

Horst Metzing
