Dear Friends,
Circular Letter No. 01/2002
First of all I would like to wish you a Happy New Year and success for 2002.
After all the difficulties concerning the European Individual Championship 2002, I am pleased to inform you that the Andorra Chess Federation is prepared to hold this important European event. For the time being, details are being negotiated with the government. A final decision will be made on 17 January. Thereafter you will be informed about the conditions.
The European Individual and Team Chess Championships for Youth and Juniors in Blitz and Rapid play was successfully organized in Novi Sad/Yugoslavia from 20 until 25 November 2001. Totally 191 players from 12 European countries found their way to Novi Sad. According to the request of the participants, these championships should be held in July because of the school holidays.
As it was agreed in León/Spain, our Tournament Director Dirk De Ridder has prepared a questionnaire regarding a change of age limit for youth in European events (annex). We would like to ask all federations to fill in this questionnaire and to return it to our secretariat.
Finally the European Club Cup 2002 is to be held in Kallithea/Greece from 22 until 29 of September. The official invitations will be distributed later.
Enclosed you will find the updated ECU Tournament Calendar.
Once more we would like to point out that we are co-operating with EDAMI regarding the ECU website. We would really appreciate your support by posting the ECU logo on your own website link in order to redirect it to the ECU website.
Please note that we have asked you to let us know the dates of your national championships (team and individual) in order to avoid as many as possible clashes with ECU championships.
