Dear Friends,

The 3rd European Individual Women´s Championship in Varna, Bulgaria seems to become one of the strongest individual women´s tournaments. Up to now more than 100 players have registered including more than 50 Women Grandmasters. We would like to remind you that all national federations are kindly requested to fill out and return the application forms (hotel reservation and transportation for players and accompanying persons) by 30 April 2002.

The 3rd European Individual Championship is going to be organized in Batumi, Georgia from 11 until 27 June 2002. You have received the invitation. Please note that applications should be sent to the Georgian Chess Federation as soon as possible but not later than 5 May 2002.

The 18th European Club Cup 2002 will be held in Kallithea, Greece from 21 until 29 September. The invitations and the tournament rules have been published by the tournament director Dr. Dirk De Ridder. Every federation that intends to participate with one or more teams must inform the organizing committee before 15 July 2002 of its acceptance.

The ECU Board would like to draw your intention especially to the 7th European Club Cup for Women which will be held in the beautiful city of Antalya, Turkey from 28 September until

07 October 2002. This European event needs the support of all federations in order to promote women´s chess. Please do your utmost in order to welcome a lot of women´s teams in Antalya. The deadline for all entries is 21 May 2002.

Immediately thereafter the European Rapid and Blitz Championship for Women will be held at the same venue (08 to 12 October 2002). The official announcement and the invitations will be distributed later.

The Hungarian Chess Federation has invited all European Federations to participate in the 3rd Boys and Girls under 18 Team Championship in Balatonlelle from 11 to 20 June 2002. This tournament has become a tradition and is well organized at the beach of the Balaton.

Attached you will find the first announcement for the 2nd European Individual Senior Championship in St.-Vincent/Aosta Valley, Italy from 28 September to 06 October 2002. Please note that the organizer offers special conditions for one player from each federation. As the financial conditions in St. Vincent are favourable we only can recommend the participation to all European players being eligible for this event.

The organizer in St. Vincent is Mr Agostino Scalfi. As we had informed you in our Circular Letter No. 3/2002, he has been appointed as Deputy Director for the ECU Grand Prix. Unfortunately his mobile no. was mentioned incorrectly. The right one is: 0039-347 251 36 45. As one of his e-mail addresses is invalid you should only contact him under e-mail comitatoscacchivda@netvallee.it.

The German Chess Federation has announced the dates for the next year´s European Senior Team Championship in Dresden: 23 February until 01 March 2003. Details will be published later.

Attached you will find the data for our updated ECU-Manual. We would like to ask you to check your addresses once more, to correct directly the data and return it to us. Please include the names of the presidents and delegates as well.

For the first time we intend to publish the results of the winners of all European Championships from its beginning on. We are having difficulties with the completion of the youth and juniors events. Attached is the current list we had been able to establish by now. If anyone can help us with information concerning the missing names and years we would be very grateful.
