Dear friends,

First of all, I would like to wish you a happy and successful New Year.

We have received bids for the European Club Cup 2003 from Andorra, Bratislava/Slovakia and Crete/Greece. The Board will decide upon the venue on 15 February 2003. There has not been any separate offer for the European Club Cup for Women. Therefore both events are supposed to be organized jointly.

The invitation to the European Individual Women´s Championship in Antalya/Turkey from 29 March to 12 April is attached. The prize fund of totally 44.000,-- € is the highest ever paid for the European Women´s Championship. For the first time the participants may enjoy an “all inclusive championship”. We really hope that a lot of players will use this opportunity to participate in this championship, which is a qualification for the World Championship.

Today, because of some technical problems, we cannot announce the exact dates of the European Individual Championship in Patras/Greece. President Boris Kutin is still negotiating with the organizer. We hope to know the details of the championship, including the dates, within the next two weeks.

Unfortunately, the dates of the European Youth Championship in Budva/Montenegro are still unclear. It should be held in summer, as this period seems to be more convenient for the young participants. But we are well on the way to completing the circumstances.

Upon invitation of the Chess Association of the Aosta Valley and the Casino the next Board Meeting will be organized in St. Vincent/Italy on 15 and 16 February 2003.
