Dear Friends,

Circular Letter No. 08/2003

For the time being, the last rounds of the European Individual Championship (Men and Women) are going to be finished in Silivri/Istanbul. The Turkish Chess Federation has managed to hold these championships under very good conditions. Nevertheless, a lot of players have complained about the costs of the hotel. It seems to be difficult to meet the expectations of players, organizers and national federations at the same time. This issue will be discussed within the ECU Board in order to improve the tournament regulations – if necessary. However, any amendment has to be approved by the ECU General Assembly. But we have to point out that the Board had only received this one bid for the European Individual Championship.

Enclosed you will find the three bids for the European Team Championship 2005. As we had already informed you (CL 07/2003) these bids are the basis for the final decision of the General Assembly later this year.

The announcement of the European Team Championship in Plovdiv/Bulgaria is attached. The arrival day is Friday 10 October, departure on 21 October 2003. You will receive the official invitation by the Bulgarian Chess Federation within the next days. The ECU General Assembly is scheduled for Saturday 18 October.

Attached you will find the invitations to the European Youth Championships 2003 being held in Budva/Serbia & Montenegro from 12 to 23 September, the European Rapid and Blitz U20 Championship from 23 to 27 September and the European Youth Team Championship in Balatonlelle from 18 to 27 July 2003.

We would like to remind you that bids for the European Championships 2005 (Individual Championship, Individual Women’s Championship, Youth Championship, Club Cup, Club Cup for Women, Senior Championship, Senior Team Championship and Youth Team Championship) have to reach our Secretariat by 1 July 2003.

The Board intends to increase the internet activities. A substantial step will be the marketing of the official ECU website and the acquiring of sponsors. One offer has already been received. National federations and companies being interested in this project should contact the Secretariat for further details and submit their offers by 15 July 2003.

Enclosed you will find the ECU Manual 2003. It includes the Statutes, Financial Regulations, all Tournament Rules, the winners of all European Championships and the addresses of the Board and the national federations. As usual, after going to press some changes have occurred:
