Dear Friends,
Circular Letter No. 2/2005
This year’s ECU General Assembly will be held in Gothenburg/Sweden on 6 August 2005 at 10:00 o’clock. The venue will be Gothia Towers Hotel, the official hotel of the European Team Championship.
We would like to ask you to submit motions and proposals for the agenda by the end of May. Attached you will find a registration form for the General Assembly. Please fill it out and fax it to our secretariat in Berlin by 1st of July.
The invitations to the European Team Championship in Gothenburg being held from 29 July to 7 August 2005 have been distributed. We expect a chess highlight for teams and spectators. Additional information under http://goteborgchess2005.se
Concerning the European Individual Championship in Warsaw there had been some misunderstandings and issues between the Polish Chess Federation and the organizing committee. Meanwhile a compromise was found and the President of the Polish Chess Federation will be a member of the Honorary Committee of the organization. You have received the invitation. Although the official deadline was 25 April registrations are still possible.
For the time being 188 players have registered for the European Individual Women’s Championship in Kishinev. This championship seems to be the strongest women’s tournament ever. All players and federations are requested to inform the Chess Federation of Moldova about arrival times and flight numbers in order to be picked up at the airport. Details can be found on the organizer’s homepage www.eiwcc2005.chisinau.md
May we remind you that bids for the European championships 2007 have to be submitted by 1st July 2005. We will do our best to finish the inspection on time in order to take the final decisions about the venues at the Board meeting just before the General Assembly in Gothenburg.
The upcoming ECU Board meeting is scheduled in Cesme/Turkey on 15 and 16 May 2005. Due to the procedure of the European Union the Congress "Chess in Schools" has been postponed and will now be held in Enschede and Amsterdam from 21 to 26 February 2006. We thank the Dutch Chess Federation for their efforts.
Although it is a FIDE matter we would like to point out that the Trainer Academy in Berlin has already organized two seminars. The next one will be held from 4 to 10 November 2005.
We would encourage the European coaches to attend such a course in order to receive the title of a FIDE Instructor or FIDE Trainer.
Please note that this year’s FIDE Congress is scheduled in Dresden/Germany from 17 to 24 August 2005. The official invitations will be distributed within the next days.
Best regards,
Horst Metzing
Secretary General
