Circular Letter No. 15/2006

Dear Friends,

A few days before the end of this year I would like to inform you about the latest ECU news. This year has been a very important one. The elections in Torino have shown the basis for continuity in our daily work. The ECU Board permanently looks for a closer co-operation with the national federations.

In order to improve the financial overview for all federations our treasurer Mahir Mammedov has sent out invoices on a regular basis. This means that after each European championship the federations will be charged for the entry fees of their players. We hope that this procedure will avoid a situation that federations face the statutory issue of losing the vote at the General Assembly or being excluded from ECU events.

As it was already announced in the last Circular Letter on 6 and 7 June 2007 there will be a seminar about European Union topics in Brussels. Details still have to be fixed.

Furthermore the 1. International Chess Marketing Seminar will be held under the auspices of ECU in Haldikiki/Greece on 3 and 4 May 2007. Please, find the official announcement and invitation as annex.

The ECU website has changed essentially. There are a lot of new articles and short information about chess activities of European chess activities. Our press officer Gerald Schendel intends to set up a file of national press officers. The flow of information should be improved by such a step. We ask you to let him know the official press officer of your federation and the names and email addresses of all important journalists. In addition all federations or organizers of ECU championships are requested to send a preliminary report to Mr Schendel for being published on our website. We take it for granted that he receives a final report including the necessary results.

We remind you that the deadline for next year’s European Individual Championship (open and women) is the end of January 2007. Online registration will be possible at www.dresden2008.de. There you will find further information about additional events as for instance the Blitz Euro on the day of the tie breaks and the Masters. At the beginning of next year each federation will receive a password for the registrations.

The official 2. European Championship for School Teams will be held in Varna/Bulgaria. It includes a new age category of under 10. Attached you will find the general regulations and the official invitation.

Next year’s European Union Championship will be held in Arvier/Italy from 15 to 24 June. The invitations will be distributed within the next weeks. The Hungarian Chess Federation has announced that the next Mitropacup will be held in Szeged from 7 to 16 May 2007.

On the basis of the co-operation between MonRoi and ECU a Grand Prix will be established. There will be one tournament cycle for women and one for men (open section). A lot of tournament organizers attended the MonRoi seminar in Berlin/Germany from 1 to 3 December 2006. A few technical details have to be decided yet. Within the next days an official announcement concerning this new Grand Prix will be published.

The decision about the still missing venues for some European championships 2008 will be taken by the ECU Board at the meeting in Baku/Azerbaijan on 12 and 13 January 2007, among them the European Individual Championships and the European Club Cups.
